Doctor Complaint: John Coon - Parkview Comm Hosp Med Ctr
I was admitted to Parkview for Gastric Bypass surgery...The problems started right away in recovery...I complained about nausea to the recovery nurse...telling her I felt as if I was going to throw up..and was told by the recovery Nurse that I didn't was okay and to be quiet...at which point I threw up all over myself..It was the beginning of along week..Later in my room I woke up only to discover that I was lying atop all of my lines...(Foley, IV etc;...)That was approx 1 am...around 4 am my IV blew..I rang the nurse and was told that it was fine..It was 10 am before it was confirmed that it was blown..I had been without pain meds post surgically for 6 hours and it took another 2 hours before the okay was given for a pic line....A student nurse was assigned to me the first day..I requested that not to have a student nurse for the remainder of my stay, I was assigned a student again the next day. My room was directly across from the nursing station and it was quite loud no matter how often I asked for my door to remain closed it was constantly left open. I didn't see a Doctor until 10:30 the evening following my surgery and a student was instructed to change my surgical dressing...The staff was rude at best and the care was so far below standards it bordered on criminal...Have I mentioned I am a nurse so I am aware of post-surgical protocal..and the importance of patient care...I wouldn't take my dog there for emergancy care...These are just a few of the things I experienced..When I complained to the administration I was sent a very basic form on which to fill out and complain..Let me just say that the form did not allow you to answer the questions as an individual experience..it is set up to cover the hospital and its staff...there is no place on the form to add comments or note specific incidences therefore it is just pointless
