Doctor Complaint: Dr. Mathis - Palomar Medical Center
When I was a member of the Mormon Church, my bishop was a world-renowned doctor. The word going around the ward was "Don't go to Palomar Medical Center unless you're dead. If you're capable of walking, go to Pomerado in Poway."
I didn't head the warning because I have a lor of history with Palomar. Both of my kids were born there, and I've had several surgeries there. I've encountered incompetent nurses and doctors in the ER, but overlooked it because I lived so close by.
On May 1, I went to the ER because I was in so much pain all over, I was crying. My arms, legs, wrist, hands, etc., caused me to suffer to the degree I suffered when I was giving birth many years ago.
Surprisingly, I got in right away--the illegal immigrants seeking free care there seem to have all gone back to Mexico due to the recession. I even saw the doctor sooner than I'd ever seen one.
He said he thought I had Fibromyalgia, which was great because the doctor I'd seen a week earlier didn't have a clue as to what was causing me so much pain. But as soon as he said it, he was called away. He said he'd be back, but I waited for over an hour.
I asked to speak to someone in charge, but only got Erin whose tag said, "RN." I should have known better because at Palomar's ER, you don't have rights. You are just an object to them, not a human being.
I asked her how long it would be 'til the doctor came back. I didn't get an answer. When I later asked where the doctor was, (OH, yes, I was mad) she got in my face and said, "He's hwelping sick people," as if I wasn't one of them.
I shouldn't have had to wait for hours to wrap up a five-minute conversation. A girl asked me to rate my pain from 1-10. But by then, the attack had subsided. I was hoping to get a prescription to get me through the weekend, then I'd see my doctor on Monday.
Erin showed up with a cart and said she was going to give me a shot in the but. I refused it because I didn't need oit at that point and I'm allergic to many meds. I tend to get hives and itch and I wasn't going to take something that I could get by without. This pissed her off.
I repeatedly asked anyone when I'd see the doctor and said I wanted to know what Fibromyalgia was and a prescription. I got no answer but Erin had plenty of time to argue with me.
The doctor came back and saw other patients in the room. Now I was livid. It wasn't after I threw a fit that I started to get answers. He wasn't going to see me until I saw a social worker. Then a security guard showed up.
If these idiots had answered my questions or just gotten me out of there, they wouldn't have had to do this. They have acted like this before, so that's why I'm writing this complaint.
The staff isn't too busy, they are mentally lazy and incompetent at handling patients. They aren't accountable for what they do, so they treat you with no respect. I was worn out from suffering, freezing (even though I brought my own blanket, theirs are too thin)and un comfortable. I wanted to go home, so I got up and left.
Thanks for nothing Palomar. I'm not surprised that a few years ago, a woman complained that her sick mother was allowed to die in your ER. You have the most uncaring people working for you I've ever seen. If your employees can't handle the trouble they cause, they should find other jobs and give the patients a break.
BTW, I've also heard that it's hard to keep the ER staffed because of the hours. It shows.
