Doctor Complaint: N/a - Gulf Coast Hospital
I went to the hospital on April 20, 2011 because my I had severe abdominal pain and my doctor was concerned that it my appendix may need to come out. He said only the hospital had the equipment to test and see if it was a ruptured ovarian cyst, or if I needed surgery for the appendix to be removed.
I spent all day in the hospital and had alot of tests. They weren't any more sure of the problem then the doctor was, and they said I needed to just come back in 12 hours for them to check it again.
I did what they told me, and the hospital billed me for two visits to the ER. They refuse to count the second visit as a continuation or a follow-up on the first, though I was told by their ER than I needed to come back. I would've sat there and waited, or skipped the second visit, before paying an additional $390 to walk thru their doors 12 hours later. I've talked to several people from their billing department, including a supervisor, and somehow it's just not possible to change the coding or amounts on the bill. When I make a mistake charging someone in my job, I know how to fix it. Maybe they need to find people that know how to do the job.
