Doctor Complaint: Unknown - Parma Comm General Hospital
Ohio Department of Health 800-342-0553
On Friday, 16July2010, I took my son to the Emergency Room of Parma Community General Hospital, in Parma, Ohio. All of the following times are approximate, within 2 to 5 minutes of stated time(s): At approx. 10:30pm, we arrived at Check-In. I filled out sheet, which consisted of my name, his name and one other piece of info. We checked in, I sat down (3 min process)-In waiting room for approx. 25 more minutes. Approx 11:00pm, called in for vitals check (6 min process)-in waiting room for approx. 2 more hours. Approx 1:00am, called in for X-Ray (10 min process)-in waiting room for approx. 25 more minutes. Approx 1:30am, called in for Blood Draw (5 min process)-in waiting room for 1 more hour. Approx. 2:30am, called/escorted back to Triage area , room 3 (4 minute walk). We were in there until 4:51am (approx. 2hrs 17mins) before Doc came in. He gave his 3 (THREE) minute spiel, and was gone (out at approx. 4:54am). I had previously told the male LPN that I knew this would happen, which is probably why I had to wait an extra long time before the Doc’s arrival. So, after the Doc’s departure, we waited for approx. 30 more minutes, for the antibiotics and pain pills for my son (at approx. 5:25am). At approx. 5:30 am, and approx. 7 (SEVEN)- yes SEVEN hours after our initial arrival to the “EMERGENCY ROOM”, my son’s injury was finally, and actually, being treated. This treatment lasted less than 10 (TEN) minutes. Of course, more waiting after the treatment. Approx 22 (TWENTY-TWO) mins after treatment, we were on our way to check out of the Hospital. Hilariously (TIC), there was no one present to check us out, though she arrived as I was walking out of the door to pull my vehicle up. I pulled my vehicle up, came back in to check out, and was subsequently told (paraphrasing) that I may not have the opportunity to be billed for Emergency Care in the future. “Ain’t that a kick in the head”? SEVEN HOURS BEFORE AN ACTUAL TREATMENT BEGAN, IN AN EMERGENCY ROOM! SIX HOURS AND TWENTY-ONE MINS BEFORE ACTUALLY BEING SEEN BY AN ACTUAL DOCTOR! SEVEN AND ONE HALF HOUR S TOTAL VISIT TO AN EMERGENCY ROOM! SAD!!!!!!!!!!!!
Synopsis: I go to Parma Comm. General due to the close proximity to my home. But, if I have to go elsewhere, I have the means, and will (more than likely) exercise them! So…For the total of 4 (FOUR) hours spent in Emergency room, prior to Triage, approx. 25 (TWENTY-FIVE) mins was actual contact with Hospital Staff. For the total of 3 (THREE) hours and 15 (FIFTEEN) mins spent in Triage, 7-10 (SEVEN to TEN) minutes was actual contact with Hospital Staff. ---We don’t practice standing in long lines all night for new iPhones, XBoxes, or PlayStations---Not even on Black Friday! Why do we have to endure such long waits when we go to the “Emergency Room” of a Hospital? Is this the Hamptons? Is “HankMed” somewhere around, that common folk like myself have to endure the wait for “exclusivity”? HAH! And to top it all off, the Check Out Receptionist told me that the Parma Community General Hospital is “trying to get away from” allowing people to be billed for EMERGENCY ROOM VISITS. In the future, if a person has an emergency, are they going to be turned away from this public hospital, if they don’t have ($75.00 or more) in their pocket? Is the patient going to be arrested if s/he doesn’t pay right then and there? If I have to drive 30 extra minutes each way for, say Metro or Cleveland Clinic, to shave approx. 4 (FOUR) hours off my wait, I think that is a more palatable solution. My name is Leroy O. Hucks, and this is my complaint (realization of others’ stories) into the shunning of patients by the staff of Parma Community General Hospital, in Parma, Ohio. END!
