Doctor Complaint: Unknown - Tulane Univ Hospital & Clinic
I was admitted to Tulane University Hospital in February, 2009 after presenting in the ER with fever and abdominal pain. I was diagnosed as having a Kidney stone. After being transferred to a hospital bed in the Hospital ward, I received terrible care. One of the first things, I am complainting about was th lack of communicatio received from my rimary admitting physiian. He was unavialable and only the residents rendered care.Secondly, the 1st year resident was verbally abuse and was the main physician I saw during my 5 day stay. Thirdly, my assigned day nurse was scary, she gave me medicine that left me daze and speech imparied. Lastly, when I complaint to the hospital official they informed to me that the doctors would be reprimand.
I have been a nurse for over 20 years and now I teach nursing to BSN student nurses. In all of my professional nursing career, I have witness such poor care. Could it have because my sickness occured during the Mardi Gras season? I don't know but because of this incident and lack of reasonable respond, I sought another physician and hospsital and receive professional medical help.
Your help in investigating this incident, may help someone else not go thru this terrible ordeal that I suffered.
Sincerely,
Velma M. Lewis, Ph.d

A complaint was made to the Tulane University officials. I received a letter indicating they have taken of the situation with the physicians. However, I believe an independentinvestigation of the care should be done and compensation awarded.
In addition, the day shift nurse needs to be investigated for her lack of professional service rendered.
Thank you.
