Doctor Complaint: N/a - Macon Northside Hospital

After coming back from surgery the technician walked into our room, did not introduce herself or state why she was there, and proceeded to walk toward my daughter. It was not until I stopped her and said, “Excuse me but who are you and what are you doing with my daughter?” that she bothered to introduce herself and share why she was there.

After returning from surgery they checked on Kayleigh. No one checked on her again until two and a half hours later when I had to call and request assistance.

We were placed in a room with no telephone but yet given a phone number to contact our nurse.

When Kayleigh vomited on her sheets we had to change her sheets ourselves. Although we requested sheets, after waiting an hour my mother-in-law finally went to the nurses station to get the sheets ourselves. Kayleigh could not sleep in a bed with vomit and sitting up was making her naseous. The nurse handed my mother-in-law the sheets with a huge smile. I would have thought they would have been appalled that the patient’s family had to take care of this.

When the person brought her food tray she did not greet anyone or say anything. She did not ask where we wanted the tray. She simply walked into the room, pushed all of our things to one side, plopped the tray down, then turned around and waked out.

9:00 and our nurse has yet to check in. Last check in was 7:30. They say it is shift change but would not know because I have not seen anyone. Shift change is at 6:45. It is now 9:30 and still no nurse.

Called to request a copy of my patient rights, which are supposed to be available in every room, and was told that I would have to wait until 9:00 the next morning to get a copy. I had to demand one right then and was switched to the charge nurse, Wanda.

I was told nurses have six to seven patients on their floor. Nurse arrived at 9:45. I had to ask her name is Vivianne. Kayleigh was administered her antibiotic at 9:45 to be given every 6 hours.

Interestingly enough, Wanda was the only person on staff to think to offer my daughter ginger ale.

Asked for a copy of my patient rights and was given a copy of the Informed consent which was signed upon my daughter’s admission. They do not know what patient rights are. I had to look it up on the internet to ask them.

They were supposed to hook her up to the leg massage things immediately after surgery. They forgot. At 10:00, eight hours after her surgery, they finally came and did it after I said something. And I have no formal medical training.

10:20 and leg things still not hooked up.
