Doctor Complaint: Emergency Room Staff - Orange Park Medical Center

My brother went to the Orange Park Medical Center today 1/30/2010 because he had gotten some teeth pulled earlier in the week. He was running a fever, and his mouth was swollen. His blood pressuer was 200/110 and they turned him away and told him to go to Sands Medical.
He explained he wasnt able to get to the hospital due to his transportation problems and they stated his medical needs were not severe enough to require medical attention.
They had him escorted off the property....he had come directly from work so he was dirty and unkepmt. I thought a hospital can not refuse services?

Actually, a hospital can refuse to treat after a qualified medical person sees the patient and performs a quick medical screening exam. People need to learn the federal law. Any hospital can refuse to treat you if after they examine you, it is deemed that you do not have a medical emergency!
