Doctor Complaint: Kevin Landolfo - Mayo Clinic
First, the doctor's staff miscommunicated with another Mayo doctor's staff and messed up scheduling an initial appointment; later they scheduled another appointment for surgery for when the doctor did not want to do it. Then it was cancelled. Then, they promised to call on a specific day to reschedule, but did not for two more days and then did not leave a message, treating us like a yo-yo. Through the whole process, few calls were returned, no messages were left for us, we could never leave messages outside daytime business hours, etc. When we asked for help with scheduling, they apparently viewed it as a risk that they had made some mistakes, so the solution was to decline further service to the patient, which most people would consider discriminating against certain customers over others (other businesses cannot legally or ethically do this to their customers). The hospital staff acted as though everybody may sue them, even if the patient just wants their life saved and wouldn't even think of suing, barring extreme surgical mistakes. So, the patient in question had to defer care for something that the surgeon had himself said was "very serious" and go elswhere, delaying treatment and risking further organ damage (we were told by the referring doctors 2 months ago that it should be done within 6 months). The reasons were NEVER clearly stated, but I know that many doctors in the U.S. dump patients if they or thier staffs make mistakes with the patient, and that is my personal belief of what happened here. Was it the doctor's fault, or his staff's? Who knows, but they claim to be a "physician-led" hospital, so they must take responsibility for at least this case of not putting the patient first. I have been through a lot in life, but very few things ever upset me this much. We have faith that everything happens for a reason, so maybe it's best that we go elsewhere...as maybe planned by God.
