Doctor Complaint: Dr Diaz - Salem Memorial Hosp
I am a retired RN Certififed Risk Manager,am 67 and have osteoporosos. Becasuse Medicare will not cover dental care for osteoporosos, I had problems with fractured infected teeth. It took me 17 days to find a place that would remove the 29 teeth but the resident did not order antibiotics post op. Within five days I did become confused, fever, problems breathing. My husband called an ambulance, and my vital signs were normal and we requested to be taken to Elmer Hospital and not Salem because of the poor experience with them
When arrived I was not taken into the emergency room but placed in an er storage room. I should have been on a monitor with physicians ordering tests to see why I was so ill. I was left for hours without nursing care, not being able to get to bathroom etc/ I was left in street clothes for two days until I asked for a hospital gown. I did not have my bed changed for seven days, no bathing, no wash clothes or towels. I had diarrhea and was unable to get to bathroom, could not take IV pole, i was too ill. I was made to clean myself up even though I was so ill. My bed was merely turned over,no clean sheets put on. I developed a pleural effusion, or life threaning fluid on the lungs because I had pneumonia not properly treated. Laying in a dirty bed, not washed, not observed for the first eight hours of admission. I have filed a complaint with the Joint Commission of Hospitals. They wanted to do a needle aspiration of the fluid in the lung and I asked to be discharged. I was afraid they would cut a lung, and I would end up with a chest tube and int he hosp for weeks. I decided to go to the hosp I would have gone to if the EMT's had taken me to the right hosp. Now I am afraid of permanent damage to my right lung, from improper treatmet. I was told my pneumonia was getting better and two days later ended up with pleural effusion or water on the lung. I was suppose to have home care and physical therapy, the hosp never ordered it. The nurse failed to tell my mD I was allergic to an antibiotic, he wrote it at discharge, it took me 24 hours to get it straightened out, meantime I was off antibiotics. I was afraid I would die if I stayed in that hosp
