Doctor Complaint: Dr. Garjulio - Select Specialty Hospital

My mother was transferred to Select Specialty Hospital to be winged off the vent, I couldnt stress to them enough about her Blood Pressure that she has chronic hypertensive and needs to be monitored more then every 4 hours. She kept going into respitory failure on a vent??????? She had bruises on her upper arm that looks like finger prints, a blood blister as big as a 50 cent piece on her wrist from what???? Her nurses button was broke the last 4 days of her life she was moved to the last room on the left by herself suppossedly from a infection in her bowel, she laid for several mins to hours in her own bm. found the lids to needles and other trash up underneath my mom, etc etc etc. I was thrown out by the house manager (the person you call if you have concerns) 3 hours before my mom died because she kept saying she couldnt breathe all day and the house manager wanted to argue saying she could breathe anyway he told me to leave or security would be called.

Cathy, I'm very sorry about your mother. I grieve with you. I used to work at this place and did until a month before your mother was there. Yes, the staff could be unprofessional, and i want to add that the culture was tech centered in that techs so needed for basic patient care were expected to do so much else that patients were neglected. Just as I left, there was little teamwork. Techs were overstretched and had benefits eroded while extra work was piled on. It seemed that lights burned while nobody else would answer, or desk staff would page the tech to answer when the reason she wasn't answering was because she was cleaning another person. Patient care was becoming secondary to management, and they were cutting costa by taking hours from the techs and increasing extra jobs they had to do, and increasing patient loads. Techs were disrespected and abused and could not watch the patients effectively because while trying to bathe soiled patients, they would be relentlessly paged by supervisors wanting to pull them to other tasks such as clerical work or transporting another patient to a test. We were insubordinate if we dared ask not to be pulled when soiled patients were calling for baths that we wanted to do. If patients lay in BM, it was because only we techs thought that dignity needed to be preserved, because few others would deign to help. Lastly, restraints were used because very few patients were given one on one, and the place refused to staff with registry techs when short of help, even to unsafe levels.
