Doctor Complaint: Zambraski - St Joseph's Hosp & Med Center

I too had brain surgery at St Joseph’s Hospital Barrow’s Institute in Phoenix, AZ. My ENT discovered an aneurysm and 2 weeks later I ended having brain surgery. One minute I was healthy and the next I could die or ended up w some disabilities.
My surgeon successfully repaired the aneurysm. However, since the day after my surgery to today I have a pressure headache. On my following appointments after my surgery, my surgeon dismissed my symptoms because to him my physical appearance had no disabilities from surgery and discharged me from his services after 3 months to follow up in 2 years and to see a neurologist for my headaches.
Now, almost a year later I discovered my headaches are due to another aneurysm that was missed during my surgery and was never disclosed to me.
In a way I was lucky I ended up without any physical disabilities from my surgery; in reality it has been an emotional shock to my life and my family. I now face another surgery ahead that who is to say I get lucky again.
Barrow Institute needs to consider the emotional aspects of their patients. My heart goes out to all those patients that were not as lucky as I was. One of my hardest emotional moments has been making appointments to see my surgeon since the first follow up appointment up to today. My surgeon has 2 staff members who set appointments. One of them is Veronica, whose personality does not match the needs of patients at Barrow’s Institute. When calling to set an appointment w my surgeon, her tone of voice is sharp almost like I was interrupting her work. At one time in a sarcastic tone of voice she made the comment: “Why do you need to see now. Our files indicated that the doctor discharged you so no you can not make an appointment” and disconnected the call. Barrow Institute needs to consider the emotional needs of patients and have a compassionate staff that can best assist patients cope w concerns for as insignificant it is seems to them Brain surgery is a big deal. While Barrow Institute can be the best place for surgery, better services need to be provide to assist patient cope w their concerns in a more nourishing and compassionate ways.
