Doctor Complaint: Unknown - Cedars-sinai Medical Center
My daughter is 7 years old and was receiving chemotherapy for cancer treatment. She went in for a follow up MRI which required her to have IV access for sedation. While it takes time to start an IV on my daughter it always gets done. She is s child and needs to be treated with patience. Children adnd adults need to be handled differently in healthcare. I am a pediatric nurse. On this day my childs right were violated. Her rights weer ABUSED by the staff. Her rights were ASSAULTED! After not being able to obtain iv access and probably getting frustrated two staff memebers held her down while she was kicking and screaming stop, stop, stop, I'm not ready. give me a minute. My daughter may only be 7 but she is very outspoken, knows what she wants and is able to let others know how she feels. They should have stopped! Point blank! When my husband finally got upset with them he verbally lashed out at the staff and rightfully so. They were giving him a hard time saying he could not go into the room with her becasue my son was there and they have a policy about children in the hospital. SO they expected my husband to let them take my screaming daughter into a room without him! When I went to pick her up I was questioned by a social worker who was asking about our home life stating dad is violent. I told her at that point dad is not nor ever has been violent and they are lucky I wasn't there! The next thing you know the department of childeren and families is at my door with allegations from the hospital regarding our competency as parents. Imagine they assault my daughter, physically hold her down two adults holding down a 40 pound child while she is kicking and screamin stop and then have the nerve to think we are abusive. What kind of circus are they running. THe hospital CEO was called once by myself and once by my husband and neither call was returned. I called the police they state it is not a police matter but I will be following up with other agencies. They abused my daughters right, reported false and insane allegations against our parenting abilities and they have to take responsibilty for their actions! There are other things that i let slide during her stay like a nurse was going to double dose her on medication, one nurse started and iv antiobiotic but never turned on the pump, they were flushing her picc line with the wrong size syringe(good thing I was at bedside constantly catching all of this). While on chemo my daughter could not tolerate the smell of the food and trays(she actually vomiting when she smelled it) this witnessed by the nurses. She was offered food from the 8th floor menu(the rich and famous on beverly hillsfood), that occured twice. For the rest of the timne for 2 weeks I had to buy her 3 meals a day because they would rather have my 7 year old daughter, sick with cancer , only weighing 38lbs starve before they would feed her the food from the 8th floor. Yes I begged the dietician for this food, explained the situation and she told my is she can't tolerated the small of the trays I will tell them not to bring her a tray any more. Can you imagine this! Something must be done. I want a formal apology from the administration of this hospital as well as from the lying dispicable social worker and staff that called in a fasle report on us to DCF. I want the nurse and doctor who held down my daughter against her own will held responsible for there abusive behavior.
